On a par with Tokio Hotel
On Tuesday Tokio Hotel will check in at the Wiener Stadthalle. The following interview was conducted by three 14-year-old girls.
What do you associate with Austria, which memories do you have about the country?
BILL: Definitely good concerts, we had a lot of great gigs in Austria. And Austria was the first country in which our first single "Durch den Monsun" became #1 in the Charts.
How do austrian fans differ from fans from other countries?
BILL: It doesn't depend on the country, it depends on every single fan. Our fans are always faithful and energetic. At the North, at the South. There are hardly any temper differences.
Not long ago, you released your third album "Humanoid". How does it differ from your last albums?
BILL: We tried out some new things, our songs got more electronic. For the new album we also took up time and we didn't make ourselves pressure. Tom and me coproduced the album for the first time. That was a totally different experience for us. I think that "Humanoid" sounds totally different than the other albums. But you still hear that it's Tokio Hotel.
When do you conceive something as inhuman?
BILL: Machines and roboters above all. Everything, which gets invented by humans.
TOM: I think it's inhuman when people are stingy or don't grudge others anything. What's also completely bad for me: If humans kill animals.
You have a great many fans. On the other hand, there are people who don't like you at all. How do you deal with that?
BILL: That's a thing which already has been like that since the beginning of our career. We grew up with the fact that people don't like us. But we also have to owe the people, who don't like us, a lot. That made us famous.
You are under way a lot, isn't the private life a bit short-changed then?
TOM: Absolutely! We don't have a private life any more. That's the price which you have to pay. That's simply not a normal job.
Is there anything that you miss?
BILL: When we are on tour, we miss our own beds, our families, our friends and our dogs.
Georg is the only one of you who has a girfriend. Are there any news from you, Bill, Tom and Gustav?
BILL/TOM: Unfortunately there aren't any news. WE believe in love at first sight. Especially Bill would look for a solid relationship. But both of us don't have any exact imagination how our dreamgirl should look like. Georg really can consider himself fortunate! But of course we'll look around when we're in Austria.
The music business is of course really exhausting. Do you regret it sometimes to be so famous?
TOM: Of course there are such situations but with 15 years we decided to be famous, then you continue going this way, there's no return.
What do you think you would do today, if it wouldn't have worked with the music?
BILL: I think we would make music though. We were just jobless musicians who would play in clubs.
TOM: (laughs) Or I would earn my money with porno films.
Bill and Tom, you are twins and virtually together the whole day, don't you annoy each other sometimes?
TOM: No, actually not. We are identical twins. We are very near to each other and we also know everything about the other one. Of course we argue with each other sometimes or even fight, nevertheless we are one person.
Bill, could you imagine a model career after your performance on the catwalk?
BILL: I couldn't imagine to do it full-time, but as a sideline. If I still get offers. It has always been fun for me to model. Or to work with great photgraphers as well, that would be amazing.
You are chancellor for a day. What would you change about the laws?
BILL: We'd change a lot about the school system and launch an unified system. We'd look more closely at teachers, mind the quality.
TOM: I would halve the taxes.
Where do you see yourselves in five years?
BILL: Probably we're still under way that much like now and still play concerts.
TOM: We'll probably have deeper rings under the eyes but still be under way on the entire world and release albums.

Am Dienstag checken Tokio Hotel in der Wiener Stadthalle ein. Das folgende Interview haben drei 14-jährige Mädchen geführt.
Was verbindet Ihr mit Österreich, welche Erinnerungen habt Ihr an das Land?
BILL KAULITZ: Auf jeden Fall gute Konzerte, wir hatten eine Menge tolle Auftritte bei Euch. Österreich war auch das erste Land, in dem unsere Single "Durch den Monsun" in den Charts auf Platz eins landete.
Wie unterscheiden sich österreichische Fans von Fans aus anderen Ländern?
BILL: Es kommt nicht auf das Land an, sondern auf den einzelnen Fan. Unsere Fans sind immer treu und energiegeladen. Im Norden, im Süden. Da gibt es kaum Temperamentunterschiede.
Ihr habt vor Kurzem Euer drittes Album "Humanoid" veröffentlicht. Wie unterscheidet es sich von Euren letzten Alben?
BILL: Wir haben ein paar neue Sachen ausprobiert, unsere Songs sind elektronischer geworden. Wir haben uns für die neue CD auch Zeit gelassen und uns selbst keinen Druck gemacht. Tom und ich haben das Album zum ersten Mal mitproduziert. Das war eine ganz neue Erfahrung für uns. Ich glaube, dass "Humanoid" ganz anders klingt als die Vorgänger. Trotzdem hört man, dass es Tokio Hotel ist.
Was empfindet Ihr als unmenschlich?
BILL: In erster Linie Maschinen und Roboter. Alles, was von Menschen erschaffen wird.
TOM KAULITZ: Ich empfinde es als unmenschlich, wenn Leute geizig sind oder anderen nichts gönnen. Was für mich auch total arg ist: wenn Menschen Tiere töten.
Ihr habt sehr viele Fans. Auf der anderen Seite gibt es viele Menschen, die Euch überhaupt nicht mögen. Wie geht Ihr damit um?
BILL: Das ist eine Sache, die seit dem Beginn unserer Karriere so ist. Wir sind damit groß geworden, dass uns Leute nicht mögen. Aber den Menschen, die uns nicht mögen, haben wir auch viel zu verdanken. Das hat uns bekannt gemacht.
Ihr seid viel unterwegs, kommt da das Privatleben nicht zu kurz?
TOM: Absolut! Wir haben ja gar kein Privatleben mehr. Das ist der Preis, den man bezahlt. Es ist eben kein normaler Job.
Gibt es etwas, das Ihr vermisst?
BILL: Wenn wir auf Tour sind, vermissen wir unsere eigenen Betten, unsere Familien, unsere Freunde und unsere Hunde.
Georg hat als Einziger von Euch eine Freundin, gibt es auch Neuigkeiten von Euch, Bill, Tom und Gustav?
TOM/BILL: Es gibt leider keine Neuigkeiten. Wir glauben an die Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Vor allem Bill würde ja was Festes suchen. Aber wir haben beide keine genauen Vorstellungen, wie unsere Traumfrau aussehen soll. Georg kann sich echt glücklich schätzen! Aber wir werden uns natürlich in Österreich umschauen, wenn wir dort sind.
Das Musikbusiness ist ja ziemlich anstrengend: Bereut Ihr es manchmal, so berühmt zu sein?
TOM: Natürlich gibt es solche Situationen, aber wir haben uns mit 15 Jahren dazu entschieden, dann geht man auch den Weg weiter, da gibt's dann kein Zurück mehr.
Was glaubt Ihr, was Ihr heute machen würdet, wenn das mit der Musik nicht geklappt hätte?
BILL: Wir würden, glaube ich, trotzdem Musik machen. Wir wären halt arbeitslose Musiker, die durch die Clubs ziehen.
TOM: (lacht) Oder ich würde mein Geld mit Pornos verdienen.
Bill und Tom, Ihr seid Zwillinge und praktisch Tag und Nacht zusammen. Geht man da einander nicht manchmal auf die Nerven?
TOM: Nein, eigentlich nicht. Wir sind ja eineiige Zwillinge. Wir sind uns sehr nahe und wissen auch alles über den anderen. Natürlich streiten wir uns manchmal oder prügeln uns sogar, trotzdem sind wir eine Person.
Bill, könntest Du Dir nach Deinem Auftritt auf dem Laufsteg eine Model-Karriere vorstellen?
BILL: Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, das hauptberuflich zu machen, aber so nebenbei schon. Wenn ich noch Angebote bekomme. Es hat mir immer Spaß gemacht zu modeln. Oder auch mit tollen Fotografen zusammenzuarbeiten, das wäre toll.
Ihr seid für einen Tag Kanzler: Was würdet Ihr an den Gesetzen verändern?
BILL: Wir würden jede Menge am Schulsystem ändern und ein einheitliches System einführen. Bei Lehrern würden wir genauer hinschauen, auf die Qualität achten.
TOM: Ich würde die Steuern halbieren.
Wo seht Ihr Euch in fünf Jahren?
BILL: Wir sind wahrscheinlich noch genauso viel unterwegs wie jetzt, spielen weiterhin Konzerte.
TOM: Wir werden zwar tiefere Augenringe haben, aber trotzdem weiterhin auf der ganzen Welt unterwegs sein und Alben herausbringen.
