Tokio Hotel tribute the fans
When Tokio Hotel were about to play in Sweden last time, the singers vocal cords striked. Now can they finally meet their Swedish fans in Stockholm and Göteborg. Themselfs, dream about playing in the outer space.
Before the weekend's two awaited Sweden concerts had the German popband, Tokio Hotel, only two experiences of Sweden. One concert that got cancelled due to a sudden vocal cord surgery, and one signing session in Göteborg [that's actually wrong, it was in Stockholm] some year earlier, a thousand lucky created total chaos. In a lounge below the Globe, just arrived in Sweden, the singer Bill Kaulitz remember the event with a broad smile. - "That signing session, we had been sitting 8hrs in a bus and suddenly got to meet all fans that got totally crazy when they saw us. We're of course really happy that we've such energetic fans", he says.
- "It's -10 degrees today! Yet they wait outside of the arena", says the twinbrother and guitarist player Tom Kaulitz.
Have you gotten used to have such an engaged audience?
- "To be honest, you never get used by it fully. We in the band are the same persons that we always have been, and we still can't understand that people have posters of us on the walls", Bill Kaulitz says.
- "Especially not if someone have any of Georg", says Tom Kaulitz with a ironic nod to the basist Georg Listing.
Your lyrics is often about pretty heavy elements. Is it harder to write them now when you're stars?
- "No, you always write about your own experiences. It's not like we suddenly live in a world with only stars, we're still people on this planet. We've the same problems as everyone else", says Bill Kaulitz.
How important are your fans PR-work for you?
- "Really important. On the Internet there's of course both bad sites and good fansites, but for us it has always been an asset that we have the kind of active fans", says Bill Kaulitz.
On your latest album you sing about that the future is already here. How do you imagine Tokio Hotels future?
- "I think we'll get to see flying cars and aliens [laugh]. But seriously speaking so is our whole latest album inspired by the whole idea of the future. We believe that there's something out there", Bill Kaulitz says.
- "I would like to fly with UFOs and visit other planets", says Tom Kaulitz.
- "Perhaps could we be the first band that plays on another planet? That would be a dream," says Bill Kaulitz and laughs."

Wir haben die zur Zeit erfolgreichste deutsche Band kurz vor ihrer großen Tour getroffen, dabei haben die Jungs uns verraten, dass Bill eine Hardcore-Diät macht, sie jede Menge Kaffee trinken und vieles mehr...
Danke das ihr euch für das Interview Zeit genommen habt. Euch steht eine lange Tour bevor, ist das nicht unheimlich anstrengend?
Bill: Wir haben jetzt eine komplett neue Show mit dabei, und sie ist auch insgesamt viel aufwändiger als vorherige. Mehr Elemente, mehr Effekte, neu Instrumente. Also anstrengend wird es auf jeden Fall, aber wir bekommen auch unheimlich viel zurück vom Publikum. Wir wollen nach den ganzen Proben endlich raus und die Reaktion der Fans sehen!
Was macht ihr um euch fit zu halten?
Tom: Bill hat eine Hardcore Diät, die soll ihn immer auf Modelmaßen und fit halten, ich selbst habe schon früh Sex für mich als bestes Mittel zum Fitbleiben entdeckt. Georg - muss man ja mal sagen - hat sich auch gänzlich ohne Sex gut gehalten und Gustav wird wohl zukünftig auch mal bei Bills Null-Diät mitmachen müssen, so wie ich das sehe.

So bekannt wie ihr seid habt ihr ja kaum noch Privatsphäre. wünscht ihr euch manchmal nicht so berühmt zu sein?
Bill: Wir wussten schon früh, dass vieles anders wird wenn wir berühmt werden. Wir genießen auch das was wir hier machen, das war immer unser Traum und wir haben uns bewusst für dieses Leben entschieden! Nur wenn es um unsere Familie oder Freunde geht, da hört der Spaß für uns auf.
Habt ihr euch mal Gedanken darüber gemacht wie euer Leben verlaufen wäre, wenn es mit der Musik nicht so grandios gelaufen wäre?
Tom: Also bei mir und Bill habe ich mir da nie Sorgen gemacht, Gustav und Georg machen sich erst keine Sorgen mehr seitdem sie mich kennen. Bill wäre übrigens sonst professioneller Kickboard-Fahrer geworden (lacht). Das hat er dann aber für einen handfesten Beruf sein lassen.
Was macht ihr so, wenn ihr mal nicht arbeitet?
Georg: Wir nutzen jede Sekunde, um zu schlafen. Sobald einer von uns im Bus oder Flieger sitzt, wird geschlafen. Wenn ich meine Koffer zu Hause in die Ecke geworfen habe, wird geschlafen usw...
Und wie sieht bei euch ein normaler Tag während einer Tour aus?
Bill: Wir sind ja mit unserem Nightliner unterwegs und in denen wachen wir dann an einem Showtag so gegen 10h auf. Im Wagen haben wir auch unsere eigenen Duschen. Danach geht es zusammen im Catering zum Frühstück. Nachdem wir dann halbwegs wach sind, ist Soundcheck und mit dem beginnt dann auch direkt die Aufregung. Nachmittags kommen dann oft Interviews und Photoshootings. Eine Stunde vor der Show treffen wir uns dann allein in unserem Backstage-Raum, das ist so unser Ritual. Gegen 20-21 Uhr ist dann endlich Showtime - zwei Stunden Show! Und nach dem Konzert gibt es dann für uns noch Abendessen. Da hängen wir oft mit unserem Team und der Crew noch ab, bevor der ganze Zirkus weiterzieht in die nächste Stadt!
Gibt es noch Länder, in denen ihr euch frei bewegen könnt?
Georg: Nicht´mal in Legoland ;-)
Tom: Mal im Ernst, es ist echt schwer geworden noch ein Urlaubsziel zu finden, wo wir mal richtig entspannen können.
Was zeichnet eure deutschen Fans eurer Meinung nach aus?
Bill: Wir sind den Weg von Anfang an mit ihnen gegangen, das verbindet und ich glaube nicht, dass wir noch da wären, wenn sie uns nicht immer zur Seite gestanden hätten. Die Fans schreiben uns auch gerade sehr oft, wie lang und aufregend die ganze Zeit jetzt schon ist und da werde ich immer ganz sentimental. Tom hingegen interessiert sich immer eher für die Fotos.
Was werdet ihr als erstes nach der langen Tour machen?
Bill: Wir fahren erstmal direkt nach Hause ein paar Tage entspannen, unsere Family und Hunde sehen, und dann gehen wir wahrscheinlich schon wieder auf die nächste Tour.
In wie vielen Ländern werdet ihr auftreten und wo wart ihr schon überall?
Tom: Allein bei der "Welcome To Humanoid City" - Tour werden wir europaweit in 19 Ländern auftreten! Und in fast allen waren wir auch schhon mal. Das hätte ich als Kind damals nicht gedacht, jetzt schaue ich auf den Tourplan und sage zum Beispiel, cool morgen sind wir in Russland und übermorgen geht es dann nach Spanien oder Italien.
Wo würdet ihr sagen war euer bestes Konzert?
Tom: Unser bisher bestes Konzert... Irgendwie bleibt einem von jedem etwas in Erinnerung, aber meine Lieblingsshow sind immer irgendwie die, in denen Bill etwas richtig verkackt. Die Fans merken alles immer sofort. Und deswegen sind irgendwie alle Shows meine Lieblingsshows (alle lachen)."

We met the, at the moment, most successful german Band shortly before their Tour started. There the boys revealed that Bill is on a hardocore diet, that they drink a lot of coffee and much more…
Thanks that you took some time for the interview. You are in for a long Tour, isn’t this strenuous?
Bill: We’re taking a completely new Show with us, which is in total much more complex than the previous ones. More elements, more effects, new instruments. So yes, this tour will be strenuous, but from our audience we get a lot of things in return. After all those rehearsals we want to see the reaction of the fans!
What do you do to stay fit?
Tom: Bill is on a hardcore diet, which keeps him on model dimensions and fit. I early discovered Sex as the best way to stay fit. The way I see it, Georg managed to stay fit without having Sex and Gustav will probably have to try out Bills 0-diet.
Band: They laugh! ;’
Now that you’re so well-known you don’t have a lot of your privacy left. Do you sometimes wish that you weren’t that famous?
Bill: We knew from the beginning that a lot of things would change with being famous. We enjoy the life that we’re leading right now, it has always been our dream and we consciously decided to lead this life! But it stops when our family or friends get involved with our career.
Have you once thought about how your life would have been if your music-career wouldn’t have gone so well?
Tom: I never worried about this when it came to me and Bill, Gustav and Georg stopped to worry about this since they got to know me. By the way, Bill would’ve been a professional Kickboarder (laughs). But he dropped this career for a stalwart profession.
What do you do in your free time?
Georg: We use every second to sleep. As soon as one of us is on the bus or the plane we sleep. When I get home I throw my suitcase into a corner in my room and sleep, and so on…
And how does a normal day on tour look for you?
Bill: We’re on the road with our nightliners, so on a day where we’re playing a show we wake up at about 10 a.m. We also have our own showers in there. Then we proceed to the catering for breakfast. Then, when we’re halway awake we’re doing a soundcheck and that’s where the excitement before the show starts. In the afternoon we often have some Photoshoots or we get interviewed. An hour before the show we meet up in our Backstage-Room, that’s our little ritual. At about 8 or 9 p.m it’s showtime – a 2 hour long show! And after the concert we’re having dinner, where we often hang out with our Team and Crew before the whole circus moves on to the next city!
Are there any cities left where you can move freely?
Georg: Not even Legoland! ;’
Tom: Seriously, it’s hard to find a country where you can go on vacation to relax.
In your opinion: What makes your german fans so special?
Bill: They supported us from the beginning, that connects us and I think without them staying by our side we wouldn’t be where we are right now. The Fans are also writing how long and exciting this whole time is, I’m getting really sentimental when reading this. Tom on the other hand is more interested in their pictures.
What is the first thing you’ll do after this long tour?
Bill: We’ll be heading home, to our family to relax and see our dogs, and then we’ll probably already play the next tour.
In how many countries will you play and how often have you been there before?
Tom: Alone for the “Welcome to Humanoid City”-Tour we’ll be playing concerts in 19 countries all over Europe! And we’ve already been to most of the countries we’ll be playing in. I wouldn’t have thought of this when I was a child, now I look at our tour-plan and think: Cool, we’ll be in Russia tomorrow and the day after tomorrow we’ll be in Spain or in Italy.
Where would you say that you played your best concert?
Tom: Our best concert…There’s alway something that we remember from each show, but my favorite Shows are always the ones when Bill fucks up. The fans immediately notice this and that’s why all our shows are my favorite ones. (laughs)
