Itt az ideje, hogy a srácokat a TOKIO HOTEL-ből komolyan vegyék és ne csak mint tini-bandát emlegessék a hatalmas európai és az egyesült államokbeli sikerek után. A Miss az ikrekkel, Bill és Tom Kaulitz-al beszélt a lányokról, a testvéri szeretetről és a drogproblémákról.
Nem találjátok félelmetesnek, milyen híresek vagytok?
Tom: Nem félünk. Nem magától érthető, hogy mint német banda nemzetközi hírnevet szereztünk. Végül is inkább büszkék vagyunk.
Mikor csalódtatok először a sztárságot illetően?
Bill: A zene bizniszben egyszerűen van egy dolog, ami ellen a mai napig küzdünk. Szabályok, amikkel az embereket le kell nyűgözni. Vagy amikor az első dolgokat olvastuk magunkról az újságban, amiket nem is mondtunk. Ezen még fiatal emberként csak néztünk. De gyorsan megtanultuk, hogy kezeljük.
Egy ismert pletykalap fotókat mutatott be a nyaralásotokról. Ez némiképp megsérti a privát szférátokat?
Bill: Ezzel már 100%-ig átlépték a határt! Állatira felidegesített. Olyan nehézzé teszik az életet, ahogyan csak lehetséges. Ez az egy dolog, amihez sohasem fogok hozzászokni.
Mi volt a legképtelenebb dolog, amit valaha is mondtak?
Bill: A hotelszobában való öngyilkosság... - nehéz kimondani, de már minden volt.
Bill, azt mondtad egyszer, hogy utálod a mindennapokat. Egy bandában játszani tulajdonképpen nem egy rutinszerű dolog?
Bill: Persze vannak dolgok, amik egy kicsit unalmasak, de legeslegvégül van olyan munka is, ami hihetetlenül változatos. Soha nem tudhatod, milyen lesz a nap. Ebből a szempontból ez a változatos szakma, amit el tudok képzelni.
Ezzel szemben az iskolába, egy igazi rendbontó voltál. Honnan jött ez a korai önbizalom?
Bill: Mi az első naptól kezdve stresszelve voltunk. Jöttünk az iskolából és azt mondtuk, soha többé nem akarunk visszamenni oda. Számunkra az iskola abszolút horrorisztikus volt. Gondunk volt a tanárokkal és állandóan büntetésben voltunk. De természetesen nem könnyített rajtunk a megjelenésünk. Csak: Mi egyszerűen nem akartunk megfelelni. Ezért költözünk el, ahogyan akartuk, mivel abban a tartományban már földönkívülinek érzetük magunkat. A magabiztosság biztosan onnan jött, hogy mi mindig együtt voltunk.
Ráadásul ugyan azzal a lánnyal éltétek át az első csókot. Nem voltatok sohasem féltékenyek?
Tom: Billt kérdezzétek, mert mindig én voltam az első, akinek barátnője volt (nevet).
Bill: A lányok miatt sohasem veszekedtünk.
Tom: Sohasem voltunk olyan durván szerelmesek ugyan abba a lányba.
Bill: Nincs senki, aki közénk állhatna, senki, aki fontosabb lehet, mint a kapcsolatunk. Persze vitatkozunk, világosan, Tom és én mindketten rendkívül makacsok és magabiztosak vagyunk. Csak azért, mert annyira hasonlóak vagyunk. Nem tudunk igazat adni a másiknak. Ha veszekedünk, a többiek inkább kimennek a helyiségből.
Ti mindig szóba elegyedtek...
Bill: Mindenki más számára nehéz jelen lenni, ha Tom és én szórakozunk. A barátaink már hozzászoktak, hogy hangosan beszéljenek és hogy belevonjanak a beszélgetésbe, különben nincs esélyük.
Együtt éltek Hamburgban, szinte éjjel-nappal együtt vagytok. Soha nem mentek egymás idegeire?
Tom: 24 órán át együtt vagyunk, vagyis nem egészen, mert külön szobában alszunk. De ez egyáltalán nem idegesít minket.
Mindenki mindig azt mondja: Egyszer saját talpra kell állni. És mi van, ha az egyiknek egyszer egy barátnője lesz vagy másik városba akar költözni. De mi nem tesszük fel magunknak ezeket a kérdéseket, mert mindig egyértelmű volt, hogy együtt vagyunk. Ez egy speciális kötelék, ami az egypetéjű ikrek között van. Ezt nehéz leírni, valójában olyanok vagyunk, mintha egy ember lennénk. Ha arra gondolnék, hogy el kellene költözni, alap lenne, hogy Bill is oda költözik velem.
Bill: Egyszerűen úgy gondolkodunk, mint a másik.
Zene terén is egy hullámhosszon mozogtok?
Bill: Azt hiszem, mindkettőnknek jó érzéke van ahhoz, hogy melyik dal jó, függetlenül a saját zenei ízlésünktől. Azonban különböző zenét hallgatunk, Tom egy csomó hip-hop-ot hallgat. Kevés olyan zenekar van, amit mindketten jónak találunk, mint például a Stereophonics és az Aerosmith.
Sok nagy banda gyorsan lezavarja az interjút. Hogy jött ez, hogy ti ilyen nyíltak vagytok?
Bill: Nekünk a Tokio Hotel nem csak egy munka. Ez az életünk. Hisz mi akkor is Bill és Tom Kaulitz vagyunk, ha lejövünk a színpadról. Esténként nem a laptop-on lógunk és nem bulizunk. Persze vannak határai, hogy mennyire legyünk nyitottak, de én a rossz dolgokról is akarok beszélni, ahelyett hogy pusztán azt mondanám, minden mindig olyan menő. Azt hiszem, jó hogy az emberek reális betekintést adunk az egészbe.
Tokio Hotel a legsikeresebb német bandákhoz tartozik. Mi van még hátra?
Tom: Tervezzük, hogy a mostani turné után Ázsiába megyünk, Japánba, és aztán csinálunk egy turnét Latin Amerikában.
Nehéz még célokat találni, nálunk minden a nulláról indult és a százra jutott. De küzdöttünk még a szabadságért is, hogy bizonyos dolgokat le tudjunk szarni, és más emberek véleményére is. Csak tesszük a dolgunkat.
Függővé tesz a hírnév?
Tom: Abszolút. Ha a nyilvánosságban élsz, mint mi, nincs visszaút. Bizonyos szempontból függsz tőle. Az ötlet, hogy "Hmm, talán nem akarok többé ismert lenni" nem létezik.
Gondoljátok, hogy már elégedettek vagytok vagy akartok még mindig valamit?
Bill: Fejben mindig tovább megy az ember, új dal és videó ötletei lesznek. Minden alkalommal megpróbálunk jobbak lenni, mint azelőtt.
A fellépések előtt egyáltalán még izgatottak vagytok?
Bill: A koncertek előtt nem vagyok valami beszédes, akár csak korábban. Amikor a színpadon vagyok, az izgalom eltűnik.
Rejtőzik még bizonytalanság a kitalált Bill Kaulitz mögött?
Bill: Nem úgy látom magam, mint egy kitalált karakter. Ha privátban találkoznak vele, ugyan úgy nézek ki, mint a piros szőnyegen, de ez csak akkor van, ha nem akarom ismeretlen maradjak. Nem akarok a nyilvánosságban egy őrült és extrém megjelenést. Egyszerűen ez vagyok én. Így szeretném viselni a hajam és a sminkem, ha valami mást csinálok.

“The World is not enough”
After their huge success in Europe and in the US it’s time to take the four boys of Tokio Hotel seriously and not to dismiss them as a Teen-Band. ‘MISS’ interviewed the twins Bill and Tom Kaulitz and talked with them about girls, brotherly love and having success as a drug.
Doesn’t the fact of how successful you already are scare you?
Tom: It doesn’t scare us. For a german Band it’s not natural to be this sucessful. We’re rather proud than scared.
When did being a celebrity disappoint you for the first time?
Bill: There are a lot of things against which we still fight in the music business. Rules, that other people want to impress on us. Or when we read the first articles about us in the newspapers, which stated things we didn’t even say. As a young person you’re overwhelmed with all this, but we learned to cope with it.
A known tabloid printed some vacation pictures of you. Do things like that violate your privacy?
Bill: The line has been crossed to 100% when this happens! I’m still mad about this. We also try to make their – the people who were in charge this – lifes as difficult as possible. That’s such a thing which I’ll never get used to.
What was the most absurd thing that’s ever been written about you?
Bill: From suicide in a hotel room ’til… – it’s hard to say, I think almost everything’s been written about us by now.
Bill, you once stated that you hate a daily routine. Isn’t playing in a Band by now also a routine for you?
Bill: Sure, there are some processes which are a bit boring, but there’s never a dull moment in this job. You never know how a day will end – so it’s the most multifaceted I can think of.
In contrary to school, where you’ve been a real troublemaker. Where did you get this early self-confidence from?
Bill: We didn’t get along with the people. We came back from school and said that we never wanted to go there again. Going to school was the most horrendous thing for us. We got in trouble with out teachers and constantly got transfered because of disciplinary reasons. But also our appearance didn’t make our life easier. Just: We didn’t want to pretend being someone other than what we are. That’s why we dressed how we wanted, and this in the deepest province – you kind of feel like an alien. The self-confidence has always been there because we were together. That’s why the other kids never catched us alone to beat the crap out of us.
You experienced your first kiss with the same girl. Have you ever been jealous of the other?
Tom: You have to ask Bill this question, because I was always the first one to get the girl (laughs).
Bill: We never fought about girls.
Tom: And we never really fell in love with the same girl.
Bill: There’s no one who could seperate us, no person that could be more important than our relationship. Sure, we fight, Tom and I are both very self-confident and stubborn. Exactly because of our similar personaly we often clash. No one of us wants to cave in. When we start to fight the others leave us alone and get out of the room.
You constantly interrupt each other while talking…
Bill: It’s hard for the others to intervene when Tom and I talk with each other. Our friends accustomed to talk as loudly as us and to interrupt us when we’re talking, because they have no other chance to get noticed when we’re talking.
You’re living together in Hamburg, so you sort of spend 24/7 together. Don’t you annoy each other?
Tom: We’re together for 24 hours a day, but also not really because we sleep in seperate rooms. But it doesn’t annoy us. Everyone always says: Doesn’t it annoy you to spend 24/7 together and things like ‘What if one of you’ll have a girlfriend’ or ‘What will you do if one of you wants to move into an other city’. We aren’t asking those questions ourselves, because it has always been clear to us that we’ll stay together. It’s a special bond which identical twins have. It’s hard to describe it, actually we’re one person. When I would think about moving, it would be clear for me that Bill would come with me.
Bill: We automatically start thinking for the other one.
Are you musically on the same level?
Bill: I think that both of us have a good feeling when it comes to noticing a good song, independent from our personal musical taste. We listen to differen music in private; Tom listens to a lot of Hip-Hop music. There are just a few bands which both of us like, for example the Stereophonics and Aerosmith.
A lot of famous Bands clam up very fast during interviews. How come that you’re so open?
Bill: Tokio Hotel has never been just a job for us. It’s our life. We’re still Bill and Tom Kaulitz when we get off the stage. We don’t just shut down our laptops and call it a day. Sure, when it comes to being open there are lines that shouldn’t be crossed, but I also want to tell people about bad things that happened, rather than to always say that it’s cool. I think it’s good to give the people a realistic insight into our whole career.
Tokio Hotel is one of the most successful german Bands. What is yet to come?
Tom: After our current Tour is over we want to tour through Asia – to Japan and a latin american Tour. It’s hard to set goals, since our whole career started so suddenly. But we fought for those bits of freedom, and we’re doing our thing. We don’t need other peoples opinion.
Is fame addicting?
Tom: Yes. When you’re in the public eye, like us, then there’s no way back. In a way you’re kind of addicted to it. You don’t have the option to say “Hm, maybe I don’t want to be famous anymore”.
Do you think that you’ll ever be satisfied with the things you achieved, or are craving for even more?
Bill: Your mind doesn’t stop thinking, you start coming up with new ideas or Songs for a Video. We always try to be better than the times before.
Are you still excited before you perform?
Bill: I’m really, really nervous before concerts, this never changed. But as soon as I’m on the stage this nervouseness is gone.
Is there a certain uncertainity behind the artificial character Bill Kaulitz?
Bill: I don’t think of myself as an articficial character. When you meet me privately I look the same as on the red carpet, unless I want to stay igcognito. I don’t try to look even more extreme in public. That’s just me. I would always wear the hair and the make-up like thism while doing something else.
"Die Welt ist nicht genug"
Nach ihren Riesenerfolgen in Europa und den USA ist es nun an der Zeit, die vier Jungs von TOKIO HOTEL endlich ernst zu nehmen und nicht bloß als Teenie-Band abzutun. Miss sprach mit den Zwillingen Bill und Tom Kaulitz über Mädchen, Bruderliebe und die Droge Ruhm.
Findet ihr es nicht beängstigend, wie berühmt ihr mittlerweile seid?
Tom: Angst macht uns das nicht. Als deutsche Band ist es nicht selbstverständlich, sich international einen Namen gemacht zu haben. Im Endeffekt sind wir eher stolz.
Wann hat das Starsein euch zum ersten Mal enttäuscht?
Bill: Es gibt im Musikbusiness einfach Dinge, gegen die wir noch
heute ankämpfen. Regeln, die Leute uns aufdrücken wollen.
Oder als wir die ersten Sachen über uns in der Zeitung gelesen haben, die wir nicht gesagt haben. Da ist man als junger Mensch erst malüberfordert. Aber wir haben schnell gelernt, damit umzugehen.
Eine bekannte Klatschzeitschrift zeigte Fotos von euch im Badeurlaub.Verletzt sowas eure Privatsphäre?
Bill: Da ist die Grenze zu hundert Prozent überschritten!
Ich rege mich nach wie vor tierisch darüber auf. Wir versuchen jetzt auch, den Verantwortlichen das Leben so schwer wie möglich zu machen. Das ist eine Sache, an die ich mich nie gewöhnen werde.
Was war das Absurdeste, was jemals behauptet wurde?
Bill: Vom Selbstmord auf dem Hotelzimmer bis hin zu... - schwer
zu sagen, da war alles dabei.
Bill, du hast mal gesagt, dass du Alltag hasst. Ist in einer Band zu spielen nicht mittlerweile auch Routine?
Bill: Es gibt natürlich Abläufe, die ein bisschen langweilig sind, aber letztendlich ist der Job so wahnsinnig abwechslungsreich.
Man weiß ja nie, wie der Tag ausgeht. Von da her ist es der
abwechslungsreichste Beruf, den ich mir vorstellen kann.
Im Gegensatz zur Schule, da warst du ein richtiger Störenfried. Woher kam dieses frühe Selbstvertrauen?
Bill: Wir hatten vom ersten Tag an Stress. Wir kamen von der Schule und sagten, dass wir da nie wieder hin wollen. Für uns war Schule der absolute Horror. Wir hatten Ärger mit den Lehrern und wurden ständig strafversetzt. Aber wir haben es uns natürlich auch nicht leicht gemacht mit unserem Aussehen. Nur: Wir wollten uns einfach nicht verstellen.Darum haben wir uns angezogen, wie wir wollten, und das in der Provinz,
da hat man schon ein Aliengefühl. Das Selbstbewusstsein kommt sicher auch da her, dass wir immer zusammen waren. Darum haben die anderen auch nie einen allein erwischt, um ihn zu vermöbeln.
Ihr sollt sogar den ersten Kuss mit demselben Mädchen erlebt haben. Gab es da nie Eifersüchteleien?
Tom: Da musst du Bill fragen, weil ich immer der Erste war, der das Mädchen hatte (lacht).
Bill: Um Mädchen haben wir uns nie gestritten.
Tom: Wir waren auch noch nie krass in ein und dasselbe Mädchen verliebt.
Bill: Es gibt niemanden, der sich zwischen uns stellen könnte, keine Person, die wichtiger sein könnte als unsere Beziehung. Natürlich streiten wir uns, klar, Tom und ich sind beide super dickköpfig und selbstbewusst. Gerade weil wir uns so ähnlich sind, geraten wir aneinander. Nachgeben können wir beide gar nicht. Wenn wir uns streiten, gehen alle anderen lieber aus dem Raum.
Ihr fallt euch auch ständig ins Wort...
Bill: Für alle anderen ist es schwer, dazwischenzukommen, wenn Tom und ich uns unterhalten. Unsere Freunde haben sich angewöhnt, genauso laut zu reden und uns auch ins Wort zu fallen, weil sie sonst keine Chance haben.
Ihr wohnt zusammen in Hamburg, seid quasi rund um die Uhr zusammen. Geht ihr euch nie auf die Nerven?
Tom: Wir sind 24 Stunden zusammen, also nicht ganz, weil wir in
getrennten Räumen schlafen. Aber das nervt uns überhaupt nicht.
Alle sagen immer: Ihr müsst euch doch irgendwann auf den Sack gehen. Und was, wenn der eine mal eine Freundin hat oder in eine andere Stadt ziehen möchte. Aber diese Fragen stellen wir uns nicht, weil es immer klar war, dass wir zusammen sind. Es ist eine spezielle Verbindung, die eineiige Zwillinge haben. Man kann das schwer beschreiben, eigentlich sind wir wie eine Person. Wenn ich darüber nachdenken würde, umzuziehen, wäre klar, dass Bill da mithinzieht.
Bill: Man denkt automatisch imemr für den anderen mit.
Seid ihr musikalisch auch auf einer Ebene?
Bill: Ich glaube, dass wir beide ein gutes Gefühl dafür haben,
was ein guter Song ist, unabhängig von unserem privaten Musikgeschmack. Da hören wir unterschiedliche Musik; Tom hört sehr viel Hip-Hop. Es gibt wenige Bands, die wir beide richtig gut finden, zum Beispiel aber die Stereophonics und Aerosmith.
Viele große Bands machen bei Interviews schnell dicht.
Wie kommt's, dass ihr so offen seid?
Bill: Für uns war Tokio Hotel nie einfach nur ein Job. Es ist unser Leben. Wir sind ja auch Bill und Tom Kaulitz, wenn wir von der Bühne kommen. Wir klappen abends nicht den Laptop zu und machenFeierabend. Natürlich gibt es Grenzen, was Offenheit angeht, aber ich will auch von den schlechten Dingen erzählen, statt bloß zu sagen, dass es immer nur geil ist. Ich finde es gut, den Leuten einen realistischen Einblick in das Ganze zu geben.
Tokio Hotel zählt zu den erfolgreichsten deutschen Bands.
Was soll da noch kommen?
Tom: Wir haben vor, nach der anstehenden Tour nach Asien zu gehen, nach Japan, und eine Lateinamerika-Tour zu machen.
Es ist schwierig, noch Ziele zu haben, bei uns ging es damals von null auf hundert los. Doch wir haben uns auch die Freiheit erkämpft, auf bestimmte Sachen scheißen zu können, auch auf die Meinung anderer Leute. Wir machen unser Ding.
Macht Ruhm süchtig?
Tom: Auf jeden Fall. Wenn du so in der Öffentlichkeit stehst wie wir, gibt es keinen Weg zurück. In gewisser Weise bist du davon abhängig. Die Überlegung "Hm, vielleicht will ich jetzt nicht mehr berühmt sein", die gibt es nicht.
Glaubt ihr, dass sich jemals ein Gefühl der Zufriedenheit einstellt, oder wollt ihr immer mehr?
Bill: Im Kopf macht man immer weiter, hat neue Ideen für Songs oder für ein Video. Wir versuchen jedes Mal, besser zu sein als das Mal davor.
Seid ihr vor Auftritten überhaupt noch aufgeregt?
Bill: Ich bin vor Konzerten nicht ansprechbar, das ist wie früher.
Sobald ich jedoch auf der Bühne stehe, ist die Aufregung wie weggeblasen.
Steckt hinter der Kunstfigur Bill Kaulitz Unsicherheit?
Bill: Ich sehe mich nicht als Kunstfigur. Wenn man mich privat trifft, sehe ich genauso aus wie auf dem roten Teppich, es sei denn, ich will unerkannt bleiben. Ich versuche nicht, in der Öffentlichkeit extra einen draufzusetzen und extremer auszusehen. Das bin einfach ich. Ich würde die Haare und das Make-up auch so tragen, wenn ich was anderes machen würde.
